I’ll be the first to admit, I’m terrible at packing. Like really, really bad.
No, seriously. I’ll pack 10 dresses, 8 tops, 8 pants and 5 pairs of shoes for a 3-day trip.
It’s a real problem, trust me. Just ask Kris (sorry!).
But anyway, because I have that packing problem, I knew I had to do something about it.
With a few trips planned this year, I decided to finally get serious about packing.
That’s why I’m sharing my tips for light packing!
Packing Cubes
I’ve heard people talk about packing cubes forever, but I never considered it seriously.
Until I realized it might be a way to help with staying organized while packing.
I decided to buy some from Calpak to match my suitcases and honestly, I never knew I’d like packing cubes so much!
They come in different sizes to fit different items and they fit inside the carry-on and large suitcase.
Flying with the carry-on
If I’m flying domestic for just a few days, I try to only fly with my carry-on.
If I take my full-sized luggages, there’s a higher chance I’ll overpack.
My carry-on is a great size truthfully, and fits everything I need.
I decided to use the small packing cubes to keep my clothes organized and divided by day-to-day and exercise clothes.
Roll it up
The best tip with the packing cubes is to roll up all the clothes and fit them inside the cube.
Not only can you fit more that way, but it also prevents lots of wrinkling with the clothes.
Honestly, win-win situation!
I also liked using any opportunity I could to separate clothes.
I kept my daily clothes separate from my workout clothes, and my shoes and toiletries separate from the clothes.
That helped with avoiding any spills or shoe marks on my clothes.
Overall the packing cubes helped me pack just the necessary by focusing on keeping only what I could stuff in it.
I had searched all tips for light packing previously and never thought packing cubes would be the answer.
But here we are!
My clothes are in their own little compartment, everything is clean, and there is no chance of things moving around during take-off and landing.
Let me know what you think of these tips for light packing and feel free to share some below!
