Big fan of ice cream? So am I! I think if I could only have one dessert for the rest of my life I’d have to choose ice cream. Sadly though, ice cream doesn’t always sit well with me. Whether it’s the dairy or added sugars, I’ve been on the hunt for a healthier ice cream. I’ll admit I found a few including Cado ice cream! However, I’ve had to reduce my avocado consumption (tragic, I know) to test out a low FODMAP diet. Anyway, enough with the ice cream struggles. I wanted to test out a no added sugar ice cream and thus the nice cream recipe testing happened. I had to start with strawberry, after all it’s one of my favorite ice cream flavors. But I wanted to add a bit more – hence the chocolate chips! Ready to give this strawberry chocolate chip nice cream recipe?
A few things to keep in mind, you can use a high speed blender or a food processor to make this. Also, if you eat it straight out of the blender, it’ll be a bit more melted and softer. Instead, I decided to place it in a silicone pan in the freezer for a couple of hours. That way it had more of your traditional ice cream texture that I could scoop out. I really tried to make this one creamier like traditional ice cream and while it’s not the same consistency, it did improve from previous nice creams I’ve had.
In the past, they’ve always felt like smoothie bowls. However, I figured out that a food processor and extra bananas help add more of a creamy consistency when heavy cream is not an option.
Anyway, here’s the strawberry chocolate chip nice cream recipe.
