I’ve always been incredibly risk averse. I’ll be the first to admit.
However, since being with Kris he’s pushed me to take on risks and challenges I would usually shy away from.
He’s not as scared of rejection or change as I am. Although I don’t always welcome his nudge or push for a challenge, in the end it’s always rewarding.
I always thought fear meant I shouldn’t take on the risk.
Obviously it depends what kind of fear you’re feeling, but for all intents and purposes, this fear is related to the nervousness of the unknown.
If I was feeling anxious or nervous, I’d run away as fast as I could.
You have no idea how many times I tried doing something adventurous (zip line, rappelling, etc) and never went through with it.
But if there’s one thing I’ve learned is that doing what scares you is incredibly rewarding.
There’s no better feeling than knowing you accomplished something you never thought you would.
Plus, it only makes you stronger and aware of your capabilities.
Take it from the experts
Some time ago I subscribed to get emails from TUT- The Universe (highly recommend it).
Every morning I get an email that somehow hits home and makes me realize there’s greatness out there.
Recently, I received an email from The Universe saying that feeling fear before or after a major decision, usually means you’re exactly where you need to be.
My best friend (who is a rockstar life coach) also told me that nerves and excitement come from the same part of the brain, so it’s normal to confuse both emotions.
If you’re feeling nervous about a big decision, it’s because it’ll probably lead to a big chance.
As humans, we tend to shy away from change because it’s unknown, but in reality, change is where we grow the most.
One of my favorite mantras is ‘if it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.’
Truth is, we need the challenges to remind us what we’re capable of and make us even stronger.
So take it from the experts and do more of what scares you, because you’ll know it’ll help you grow.
Doing more of what scares me
This whole blog post came about me doing something that scared me a lot.
When I wrote about feeling homesick a few weeks ago, a lot of you reminded me of doing more of what I love.
Following that advice, I went to The Barre Code and had a blast.
It reminded me of what I love doing and made Miami feel more like home.
However, when I was there I was asked if I’d be interested in being an instructor.
I’ll be honest, teaching at The Barre Code was something I wanted to do for a while so I immediately said yes to that opportunity.
However, after all the excitement, reality set in and that’s when fear took over.
I was so nervous when I was practicing for my audition.
I texted and called all of my friends telling them how scared I was and how I thought I would never make it. Thank you all, by the way, I know it probably got tiring to hear me doubt myself on a daily basis.
I practiced daily for my audition (thank you, Kris, for being my barre client) but still got nervous every day.
It was right around that time when I got the email from The Universe and it was just what I needed.
It reminded me that feeling nervous was completely normal, and in fact, a sign that I was doing the right thing.
Being a Barre Code instructor made me feel really scared, but I knew it was the challenge I wanted all along.
And the results are…
I am happy to share that my audition went really well (don’t get me wrong, though, I was still nervous as could be!) and I am officially training to become an instructor!
Training will be a few weeks, but I’m excited to take on this challenge.
I’m even more excited to keep settling down in Miami and making it feel more like home every day.
I can’t wait to take on more challenges regardless of how nervous I get, and cannot wait til I get to say I am officially an instructor.
Until then, take any opportunity you can to grow and challenge yourself.
