A while back I asked my Instagram followers to let me know what topics they’d like me to cover on my blog.
A few people mentioned balancing a busy schedule.
This included finding time to work out, work, spend time with friends and family, and take time for self-care.
Honestly, this post is quite overdue so I apologize for the delay!
Although I am currently less busy than I had been throughout all of 2018, I’ve definitely dealt with an insanely busy schedule at points in my life.
For a great part of 2018 I was working full-time plus working part-time at The Barre Code. I was also planning our wedding, and after that planning our move to Miami.
In addition to that, I was organizing a Tone It Up meetup, launching my blog, spending time with loved ones, working out, taking care of Ollie, while taking care of myself.
There were days where I couldn’t figure out how in the world I could fit so much in my schedule.
So I hope the below tips can help you balancing a busy schedule.
It’s not that you don’t have time
The most important aspect about balancing a busy schedule is understanding what is a priority.
It’s not that you don’t have time, it’s that you’re not making time for it.
The more you think about life that way, the more you’ll fit into your schedule.
Next time someone asks you to do something, don’t say ‘I don’t have time.’ Instead, say ‘that’s not a priority’ and then you’ll start making time for it.
I know it sounds harsh, but trust me, it makes a whole world of difference.
Write it down
I’m a total visual person. I like writing down a to-do list so I know what tasks I have to complete.
I also love carrying a planner with me everywhere.
Although I could use my phone as a calendar (which I still do), I love writing down and most importantly scratching off any completed tasks.
Whether you like keeping a planner, using your phone, sticky notes, desk calendar, whatever you prefer, I highly recommend writing down tasks or events so you can keep track of your schedule.
And believe me, it’s a great feeling when you get to scratch off a completed task.
Set a schedule
Along with having a planner or writing down what you have to do, setting a schedule for yourself is key.
It can be tedious to write every single task you have to do, but it will help you understand how much free time you have.
That way you can schedule in any additional tasks you originally thought you were too busy for.
Plus, it’ll keep you more organized and productive. Win-win!
Make choices
If you sit down and think about everything you do in the day, you’ll realize you’re most likely wasting time.
Not that watching TV isn’t good for you, but it can easily be replaced with time spent doing something more productive.
I once read that there are certain things you can swap to be more productive like listening to podcasts instead of music during your commute, reading instead of watching TV, and working out instead of sleeping in.
So next time you’re thinking you don’t have time for anything, just try to swap something for the day!
It doesn’t have to be an every day thing but a little bit goes a long way.
