Well…I have officially entered the second half of my twenties.
It’s scary, weird, and an age I never really had specific plans for.
I always thought of what I’d be doing at 20, 21, and 25. But honestly it stopped there.
Not because I didn’t think “I’ll figure it out when I get there” but because 26 just sounded so much closer to 30 and 30 sounded scary.
Now, if you’re 30, please note I mean no offense by this. When I was growing up, 30 was never “thirty, flirty, and thriving.”
A 50 year-old did not look like J-Lo did this past weekend during her Super Bowl performance.
A 43 year-old did not look like Shakira.
No, no. You were supposed to have life figured out by 25 and then everything else would fall into place.
However, a few years ago I realized it’s totally normal to be 25 and not have it all figured out.
In fact, it’s no longer expected.
So besides that, I’ve also learned a few lessons along the way. And by no means am I an expert.
I’m a firm believer that we all go through different experiences and they shape us into who we are.
What I’ve learned in the past 26 years is due to the experiences I’ve been through. Other people might have learned even more due the circumstances that shaped them.
All I know is I wanted to share 26 lessons learned on my 26th year of life in the hopes that I can encourage at least one person to see the good in life!
26 Lessons Learned on my 26th Year of Life
1. Family is one of the most important things in life
If you’re lucky to have an amazing, loving family (I know I’ve been blessed with a wonderful one), cherish that with all your heart.
2. The family we choose is also incredibly important
Sometimes you’ll be away from your family and creating your own is just as important to get you through the good and the not-so-good.
3. Not everyone will like you. And that’s okay
Just stay true to yourself and always be respectful.
4. Food is fuel. Learn to love it
It’s delicious and it keeps you going. Calories are literally a measure of energy. Food is energy. Got it?
5. Don’t take anything or anyone for granted
Tomorrow is not guaranteed so make the best of the present.
6. The impact you make on someone’s life does not depend on your pants size
Your worth is not determined by your looks.
7. What you think is your flaw, is admired by so many
Just embrace everything that makes you who you are! There are absolutely no flaws.
8. Surround yourself with people who lift you up
Life is short. Leave any negative and toxic people behind.
9. Manifest that ish. It works
But really though. Put it out there and watch the magic unfold. BTW, just be patient!
10. It costs nothing to be kind
And kindness goes a long way.
11. If you don’t ask for it, the answer will always be NO
So ask. Take that risk. The results might just surprise you.
12. We’re all marching to the beat of our own drum
There is no one timeline we need to stick to. Just follow your heart.
13. Stop wasting money on things you don’t need
Please set this as an alarm on your phone.
14. Start saving money as soon as you can
I know it’s hard. But even a dollar a day can make a difference.
15. Your first job might not be your dream job
Keep hustling though. You’ll get there.
16. Keep an open mind
You’ll never know where you’ll find your next opportunity.
17. Stop talking and start listening
Everyone’s going through something. Take time to listen.
18. Sometimes someone’s attitude might be a reflection of yours
Be careful of the energy you transmit.
19. Start your day with a grateful heart
You’ll see how quickly your energy and mood will improve.
20. Stop making excuses
The time is now. You’re ready for it. Get after it.
21. Dogs are great for the soul (and everything tbh)
Life can be ruff (pun intended, obviously).
22. Get your body moving.
It releases endorphins and endorphins make you happy. And if you watched Legally Blonde you know how the saying goes.
23. Throughout the years you’ll gain new friends and lose old friends
Just know that the people that leave your life do so for a reason. And not without teaching you a lesson.
24. Take a social media break
Seriously. Do it. And take any other breaks, learn to rest!
25. Stop comparing yourself to others
You are perfectly unique and worth so much more than you know.
26. Take care of our planet
It’s our only home and we need to do our part in keeping it alive and thriving!
Whatever your age may be, I’d love to read a lesson you’ve learned so far.
Drop it in the comments below and let’s all do our part to help each other grow and see the world with a different set of eyes!
And if your birthday is today, happy birthday! If you’re an Aquarius… hey girl hey!
And to everyone else, sending all the love and positivity!
