As the year is coming to an end, I wanted to take some time to reflect on everything I learned and everything I’m taking with me for 2020.
At the beginning of the year, I decided to make a vision board to help inspire and guide me.
It had a lot of goals and things I wanted to accomplish me, some of which I did.
At the start of the year I had the mindset of “I HAVE TO accomplish this no matter what.”
As the months passed by, I realized I may not actually go through with everything on the board.
It was tough at first and I kept pushing myself, until I realized there’s more to what the vision board listed.
When I created that board, those were the things I wanted. Honestly, I did not expect new things to come my way.
However, as the months passed, new opportunities arose and I realized there were other things I wanted more. Things I had never considered at first.
So as I go back through my 2019 vision board, I must say I’m incredibly happy that some things worked out and others did in a different way.
What Worked
Starting with the good things, I’m recapping everything that I was able to make happen this year.
First and foremost, my most exciting accomplishment, was traveling to Colombia!
In October, Kris and I had the opportunity to visit Colombia with Ollie and Milo.
I hadn’t been home in 4 years, and honestly, I missed it so much.
Kris had never visited and all I wanted was for him to see where I grew up.
So we finally did! And I couldn’t be more grateful we had the opportunity to travel to Cali, Colombia.
We also had the opportunity to buy our first home this year.
So far, we (pups included), love our new place! We love creating new memories here and especially when friends come over to visit.
My 2019 vision board also included working out and eating healthy, which is something I’ve continued to do.
Sure, the past few weeks have not been as strict with my eating habits, but that’s totally okay!
The holidays are meant to be spent with family, not stressing about food.
I’m happy to say I completed all of the 2019 Tone It Up challenges and cannot wait for the Love Your Body Series (my fave!) in 2020.
What Didn’t Work
I struggled coming up with a way to describe the things in the vision board that did not work out.
I don’t really think they did not work out per se, but more like my priorities changed.
2019 started with training to be a barre instructor, something that was on my vision board. While I loved it, my heart just wasn’t fully in it.
I go over in greater detail on this post, but all I have to say is I’m happy I gave it a shot and realized it wasn’t right for me. I’d rather do that than live wondering what it would’ve been like if I hadn’t tried.
I also didn’t host Tone It Up meetups like I wanted, but it’s not like I didn’t connect with people.
I attended lots of events and made new friends along the way. Hosting an event of my own was a lot of fun, and it’s something I still want to do in the future, but it’s not the only way to connect with like-minded girls.
I’m lucky to have met some wonderful friends this year and I’m looking forward to more get-togethers next year.
I’m a bit embarrassed to say I never finished reading Rachel Hollis’s “Girl, Wash Your Face” but I learned it’s totally normal for my Human Design.
As a Manifesting Generator, it’s common to not finish books, something I always thought was such a ‘failure.’ However, I learned it’s because I should be doing something that truly lights me up.
This is not to say her book isn’t awesome, because from what I’ve read so far it totally is. But there’s other things I’d rather be doing than sitting a reading a book.
I still have the book and hope to finish reading it one day, but I’m going to do it on my own terms and when I feel like it, not when it’s “expected.”
PS. If you want to learn more about your Human Design start here.
Finally, I told myself I’d blog and be more active on Instagram in 2019.
Well, the complete opposite happened and I’m a-okay with it.
I took more time to be present with my loved ones. While Instagram is fun, living the moment is way better.
I also worked really hard at my job and was spending longer hours at the office. That became my priority over blogging and while I really missed writing, I’m glad I was able to dedicate my time to clients.
My full-time job is as a Social Media Manager, meaning I spend a lot of time on social media as is, so coming home to instagramming stopped being so appealing to me.
Instead, I’d rather come home and have dinner with Kris and cuddle the pups on the couch.
This is what personally worked for me. I have nothing against social media and it’s great that people can make a living off of it. However, I’ve realized the stress of daily posting is not something I’m looking for right now.
What I’ve Learned From My 2019 Vision Board
The good news is while I didn’t accomplish everything on the board, I did learn a lot.
I’ve been able to be more flexible and readjust based on the situation.
Monica from a year ago would have freaked out that I didn’t “check off” every photo on that vision board. But almost-2020 Monica has learned that life is unpredictable and so many great things come your way when it’s least expected.
I’m happy I found the mental flexibility in me to be okay with not accomplishing everything.
Prioritizing the present time over the social media life became more important. It feels so good to spend time disconnected from my phone.
I do miss blogging though. Writing is an outlet for me. It’s also the reason why I created Dear Moscato, so I do want to get back to writing more.
While taking a break from social media has been great, I’m also thankful for all the friends I’ve made through Instagram.
In 2020, I hope to continue connecting with others on social media, but I’m also looking forward to sharing more real moments.
Less perfectly planned photos and more genuine content. At the end of the day, I created that account to share my experience as I grow through “uncomfortable” moments.
So I hope to see you around here more often. In the meantime, make sure to enjoy the present moment!
